In Memoriam: Jack Klawans

Longtime area auto dealer Jack Klawans, known as “Happy Jack,” passed away last week at the age of 96. A World War II veteran in the Navy, Jack returned to the Washington area, where he was born, and in the 1960s he opened Jack Klawans Chevrolet on Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge.

For more than 30 years, Jack Klawans Chevrolet, which sat on the property currently owned by Lindsay Chevrolet, was one of Northern Virginia’s premier dealerships. In addition to being the namesake of his dealership, Jack was a highly active owner, mentioning in print advertisements from the 1980s that he visited every part of his dealership twice a day, to ensure that his customers were always well taken care of.

To Jack’s children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who knew him and loved him, WANADA extends our sincerest condolences. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, funeral arrangements will be private, though those wishing to honor Jack’s legacy may do so by donating to the American Cancer Society, and by leaving a note on his memorial page.
