Apple debuts way for iPhone users to connect through their cars
Apple announced a partnership with three luxury automakers at the Geneva Motor Show that will let drivers connect with their iPhones in specific models through the cars interface or using Siri voice recognition.
Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo will be the first to offer CarPlay, starting this year with Volvos redesigned XC90, according to Automotive News. Other manufacturers will integrate CarPlay into their models later, Apple said, including BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, Kia, Nissan and Toyota. The feature could be a potential selling point, as studies have shown that millennials are very interested in how they can stay connected to their devices while theyre driving.
CarPlay lets drivers use their iPhone in the car with minimized distraction, said Greg Joswiak, Apples vice president of iPhone and iOS product marketing. Texting and other iPhone use by drivers has been the subject of laws in an increasing number of states, and has been discussed on the federal level.
