WANADA Retains Douglas Patton As DC Public Policy Counsel
To assist in public policy matters in the District of Columbia and help raise the profile of Washington area dealers, WANADA has retained the services of Douglas J. Patton, who served as Mayor Anthony Williamsê deputy mayor in 1999 and is now senior attorney with Holland & Knight, one of the nationês largest law firms with 1300 lawyers across the country, 200 of whom are in Washington. Patton specializes in government relations and was the former chairman of DCês Business Regulatory Reform Committee, which got rid of a lot of archaic legislation that had been around since the early 20th century, he noted. We just didnêt get rid of enough of it.
A self-described Iowa farm boy with a law degree from the University of Iowa, Patton had a strong interest in civil rights during the 1960s and worked on the Hubert Humphrey campaign in 1968. He returned to DC to work with Walter Fauntroy on his first campaign for Congress in 1971, and has lived in the city ever since, working on both Democrat and Republican political campaigns and legislative initiatives, as well as representing a variety of issues for cities, counties and non-profit organizations.
Doug is a seasoned pro who really knows the ropes in this city and can provide valuable assistance to WANADA and its dealers, said WANADA CEO Gerry Murphy.
