Preview The Washington Auto Show
of the 21st Century!
Here’s how Washington’s newest monument measures up.
The new Convention Center offers:
à 2.3 million square feet
à 725,000 square feet of prime exhibit space
à 150,000 square feet of meeting space
à 52,000 square foot ballroom with 30,000 square feet of pre-function space (As one of the largest ballrooms on the East Coast, it can seat 5,000 comfortably.)
à 36,000 square feet of registration space
à 44,000 square feet of retail space
The Center is big enough to hold (pick one):
à Two Washington Monuments laid end-to-end, the Sears Tower, two major league baseball fields, six NFL football fields, or four 747 jet liners.
Construction facts:
à This is the largest public works project in the District and the largest excavation site in the Western Hemisphere.
à Last year, we installed 2.2 acres of pre-cast wall surface, 8+ acres of interior masonry walls and 3,000,000 lbs. of sheet metal.
à Over 70 miles of piping have been laid – enough to runaround the Washington Mall 15 times.
à The new Center will use as much steel as seven Eiffel Towers.
The Center will contain such innovations as:
à An inventive closed ramp docking system
à Advanced fiber optic and satellite systems
à Column-free design of exhibit spaces
Big impact:
à The new Center will attract three million people each year, and will pump $656 million into the District and $776 million into the metropolitan region annually.
