New Policy Change Extends Processing Time at DC DMV

The D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles has informed WANADA that, effective Tuesday, October 28, 2003, dealers may see an increase in processing time from 5 to 10 business days to 10 to 15 business days due to a new check policy.

DMV examiners will now only accept checks from dealersê runners that are completed. The checks must have the amount filled in, date, and be made payable to DC Treasurer. Examiners will not accept blank checks.

–We understand that there are dealersê runners who prefer that we (DMV) provide them with the total amount due for their transactions prior to submitting payment,” said Jacqueline M. Stanley of the DMV. For those dealersê runners, the DMV staff has been instructed to –process applications and provide dealers with a quote sheet, which itemizes the amount due. Dealers can use the quote sheet to write a check to the DC Treasurer. Please re-submit the quote sheet and check to the examiner who will continue processing your work,” she said.

Any questions about the new policy should be directed to Stanley at (202) 727-1160, or e-mail Jacqueline.Stanley@dc.gov.

WANADA is meeting this week with DC DMV to work out a better solution for future transactions.
