MD Dealers to Get Long Awaited One Part Title

The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) is preparing to implement Phase One of the –One Part Title/Electronic Lien Release.” Dealers have long awaited this change in the title registration process, and it is now just nine months away!

In the meantime, it is critical that dealerships use the Electronic Registration and Title System (ERTS) until the One Part Title/Electronic Lien Release is implemented. ERTS will be the dealershipês only way of knowing whether or not a lien has been electronically released by the lien holder with the MVA. It can be as simple as placing an inquiry and receiving a receipt from the MVA. When applying for a dealer duplicate title, the lien should be satisfied. The dealership would then receive a clean title. The dealer associations and the MVA are in discussions about allowing the dealer to receive a dealer duplicate title via ERTS.

It was also noted dealerships are not using the Electronic Duplicate Title request. All dealers need to use the ERTS process. The $20 fee for the Dealer Duplicate Title and the $5 ERTS fee can be a pass through on the vehicle sales contract. MNCTDA and WANADA meet regularly with MVA on agency/dealer affairs.
