Kaiser Foundation Health Plan subscribers got a welcomed letter last week announcing that, After continued dialogue with the Maryland General Assembly, we are pleased to announce that the General Assembly has granted Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc. an exemption from the Maryland HMO premium tax in recognition of our nonprofit status. Therefore, we will not increase premiums by two percent on June 1, 2005 to include the premium tax.
WANADA and its Employee Benefits Trust was a strong supporter of a premium tax exemption for non-profit HMOs, which was made clear to lawmakers at the recently concluded Maryland General Assembly.
