Generations X and Y now dominate car sales; what do they want?
Baby Boomers, move over. Generations X and Y, whose members are now 12 to 33 (Y) and 34 to 46 (X), make up 63 percent of consumers planning to buy a new car, according to a new study by GfK Custom Research.
So what do these young car buyers want? Like Boomers, Gen Y buyers want cars that are dependable and that theyre proud to own. After that, youth starts to distinguish itself.
Gen Y has the largest percentage of small car intenders 29 percent, versus 19 percent each for Gen X and Boomers. And exciting and technologically advanced features are high priorities for
Gen Y, while Boomers favor an excellent ride and good gas mileage. Its a sure sign of advancing age when comfort and thrift edge out excitement as a purchase priority.
