AutoNations Mike Jackson to keynote WANADA Annual Meeting

WANADA members will want to put Wednesday, December 7, 2011 on their calendars to gather with fellow dealers and industry colleagues at the WANADA Annual Meeting & Luncheon. This years event will be held at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in downtown Washington, DC with its program headlined by a presentation from AutoNation chairman, Mike Jackson.

Jackson began his automotive career at a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, but is fondly remembered by many WANADA members as the managing partner of Euro Motorcars of Bethesda, Maryland, at which time he was active as a WANADA Board member and officer. He was recruited from Euro Motorcars in the early 1990s by Mercedes-Benz USA where he served as president and CEO. While at MB/USA he helped create the vision and direction that led to the luxury vehicle brands rejuvenation in the U.S.

He joined AutoNation as CEO in 1999, and became its chairman in 2002. During his stewardship of AutoNation, the dealer organization:

Has become the only retailer in history to have sold more than 8 million vehicles

Has become a member of the S&P 500

Has been named Americas Most Admired Automotive Retailer by Fortune Magazine five times

Has become a member of the Fortune 500, ranking it in the top 200 companies

Reached annual revenue in 2010 of approximately $12.5 billion

Owns and operates 257 new vehicle franchises in 214 stores in 15 states

Employs 19,000 associates

Sells approximately 400,000 vehicles and services more than 4.5 million each year

Mike Jackson is a trailblazer in our business, and a visionary on transportation and energy policy in the U.S. Hes also a straight shooter who has remained close to WANADA dealers over the years and were very much looking forward to having him as our Annual Luncheon speaker, said WANADA chairman George Doetsch.

The Annual Meeting & Luncheon will begin with a reception at 11:30 am, followed by lunch at Noon. The association will then hold its annual business meeting, to include a metro Washington car market update and an election of new board members and officers. Mr. Jackson will speak thereafter and take questions, with everything expected to conclude by 1:40 pm.
