Alert: Con Artists Use Unwitting Dealers In eBay Scheme
It has been brought to WANADAês attention that those who would defraud consumers online by way of eBay sales are including pictures of vehicle inventory from area dealer lots. The dealer reporting this incident said that one of his new vehicles in inventory appeared in a picture in an eBay sales ad that was clear enough to discern the dealership name on the vehicle. The offer, of course, was too good to be true, but good enough to cause an unwary consumer to send and lose a deposit. Upon receipt of the deposit, everything went away leaving the buyer nothing but his recollection of the car with the dealerês name on it.
Dealers are cautioned to secure inventory with this latest high-tech con-game in mind. Anyone with questions can contact Gerard Murphy at gm@wanada.org or (202) 237-7200.
