“Dancing For Toyotas” Delivers Cars & Outstanding Performances
After three nights of swing, salsa, and tango sweeping the WCC Salon dance floor at The Washington Auto Show, the bedazzled winners of three dance competitions were announced at a Saturday night finale showcase hosted by Monique Coleman of “High School Musical.” Coleman also took a spin on the dance floor, demonstrating the steps that added to her fame as a contestant on the hit TV show “Dancing With the Stars.”
The winners were determined entirely online by voters on the Washington Auto Show website, who were automatically entered in their own part of the contest, culminating in a drawing for a Toyota Yaris. The winners were as follows:
Dancing Salsa, the 18-24 age category, Monique Lyons, a consultant from Alexandria, Va., won a 2008 Toyota Prius.
Dancing the Swing, the 25-50 age category, Kimberly Hynes, a software executive from northern Virginia, won a 2008 Camry Hybrid.
Dancing the Tango, the 50+ category, Teresita Bantug, a Registered Nurse with the Greater Southeast Community Hospital in Washington, won a 2008 Camry.
Virtual contestant and online winner of the 2008 Toyota Yaris was Frank Lipscomb of Jefferson, Md.
The WAS website, www.washingtonautoshow.com, featured the profiles and audition videos of each of the 15 amateur dancer contestants from the D.C. Area who were paired with instructors from contest co-sponsor Arthur Murray Dance Studios.
Kicking off each individual contest as well as the finale with high-octane performances was the celebrity dance duo and husband-and-wife team, Joe and Leisa Howard, the four-time Arthur Murray National 9-Dance Champions and runners-up in the U.S. National 9-Dance Championships. And working with WANADA chairman Tamara Darvish, who introduced the dancing segments, were WRQX/Mix 107.3 FM on-air professionals.
