Washington Area dealers honored at the NADA Convention in San Francisco
The NADA Convention always provides the stage and lights to recognize dealers from the industry who have distinguished themselves, and the Washington area had no shortage of top flight representatives this year.
Daniel Jobe Recognized with Time Dealer of the Year Award
Daniel Jobe of Capitol Cadillac Company and Capitol Buick/GMC was honored at the first general session of the NADA Convention with the prestigious Time Dealer of the Year Award, joining a number of franchised automobile dealers from across the U.S. who distinguished themselves in their industry and community. Nominated by WANADA, Daniel is the third generation in his family to head Capitol Cadillac, which today also sells new Buicks and GMC vehicles and, more recently, Fiskers. The original Capitol Cadillac was started by his grandfather, the legendary Floyd Akers, in 1934 on 22nd Street in Washington, DC. Daniels father, Howard, became the head of the company in the mid-1960s and subsequently moved the dealership (in 1979) to its current location in Greenbelt, Md., adjacent to the Capital Beltway. Daniel Jobe began work in the dealership when he was in eighth grade and became president of the store in 1990 at the age of 30, after his father passed away.
Daniel served as chairman of the Washington Auto Show during the pivotal days when the show began positioning itself as the Public Policy Auto Show on the global industry circuit. He has also served on WANADAs Board of Directors, and more recently, on the GM Dealer Council, although his leadership at GM began early on as a member of the Cadillac and Hummer Dealer Councils.
Daniel, a graduate of the University of Delaware and a member of the National Honor Society, is active in a variety of organizations, most prominently the National Kidney Foundation, where he has served as a board member since 1995 and IONA Senior Services, where he was a board member from 1996 to 2002. He is a significant contributor to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society national and local chapters in addition to numerous local and regional non-profit organizations.
Active in politics, Daniel has served as fundraising co-host for Republican and Democratic candidates at all levels.
Robert Hisaoka Recognized with Time Dealer of the Year Award
A seasoned automobile dealer executive, Bob Hisaoka was honored with the Time Dealer of the Year Award after the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers (NAMAD) nominated him in part for his active involvement with them at the national dealer level. Bob began his car business career with the Rosenthal Companies where he soon established himself as a business producer and natural leader in the organization. From there he saw his way through to becoming president and principal in full charge of the RRR Automotive organizations Tysons Corner, VA operations, which include the Honda, Infiniti, Nissan and Mazda franchises. Bob also has other automotive interests in Maryland, northern Virginia and most recently in Bowling Green, KY.
Besides NAMAD, Bob has also been active in the community relations of WANADA where he has been a strong advocate and organizer of the Bobby Mitchell Hall of Fame Golf Classic, F.B.O. The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, where millions of dollars have been raised over the past 20 years for blood cancer research. A notable fundraiser on Washingtons charity circuit each year, three years ago Bob founded the Joan Hisaoka Make a Difference Gala, in honor of his late sister, which recognizes worthy cancer patient management in the metropolitan Washington area.
Also an accomplished martial artist in Judo, Bob has taken his personal interest to an entrepreneurial level having founded his own mixed martial arts organization, Washington Combat, which kicked off with its first event last year. In the entrepreneurial realm as well, he founded and created the already popular Washingtons only authentic Chicago hot dog restaurant (www.chidogos.com) in the up and coming U Street DC performing arts corridor.
