Last week during their veto session, the Virginia General Assembly agreed to delay an increase in the state minimum wage by four months, in response to a recommendation from Gov. Ralph Northam. The minimum hourly wage in Virginia will now increase from $7.25 to $9.50 on May 1, 2021, as opposed to January 1, 2021.
Beginning on January 1, 2022, the wage will to rise to $11 an hour, and then increase incrementally in three steps over the following four years until it reaches $15 an hour on January 1, 2026. The first of those three steps will be on January 1, 2023, when the minimum wage is set to increase to $12 per hour.Download Bulletin PDF
