Minimum wage, gas tax up in Maryland as of July 1

As of July 1, 2016, the minimum wage rose to $8.75 an hour from $8.25 in Maryland. It went up higher in Montgomery County, to $10.75 from $9.55. The minimum in the District is now $11.50 an hour, up from $10.50.

Gas taxes also went up in Maryland, to 33.5 cents per gallon, an increase of nine-tenths of a cent. The tax is adjusted to keep up with inflation and has risen 10 cents a gallon since 2013.
