The national average price of gasoline last week surpassed $3.00 a gallon for 1,000 consecutive days for the first time on record, said the American Automobile Association (AAA). The current streak began on December 23, 2010. AAA forecasts the national average will remain above $3.00 a gallon for at least another thousand days barring a major economic recession.

Todays national average is $3.52 a gallon. Gas prices on average have stayed above $3.50 a gallon for the majority of days during the current streak.
