Bethesda celebrates hometown Olympians, including Julie Zetlin
[I]Next Friday evening Aug. 24[/I]Not least among the regions localities, Bethesda, (MD) is home to three Olympians just back from the London summer games: swimmer (and medalist) Katie Ledecky; kayaker Scott Parsons; and rhythmic gymnast Julie Zetlin. As reported here earlier, Julie is Mark Zetlins daughter from Mercedes of Arlington. Bethesdas officialdom will be on hand at next Friday nights event, Aug 24, to honor the Olympians, to include Congressman Chris Van Hollen and Montgomery Council president Roger Berliner. The event will commence at 5:30 pm at the popular and centrally located Bethesda Metro Plaza, adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Hotel at Wisconsin Ave. and Old Georgetown Road.
Ledecky is the 15-year old prodigy from Stone Ridge School who, besides being the youngest member of Americas 2012 Olympic team, took the gold medal in the 800 meter freestyle swim competition. Parsons, a three time participant in the Olympics, competed in the slalom kayaking events. Julie Zetlin, competing in her first Olympics, was the only American to compete in rhythmic gymnastics.
