At WANADA Open, rain went away and golfers turned out

Golfers at the WANADA Open, Monday June 11, were once again lucky with the weather, as the rain stopped for the shotgun start. The afternoon was cool and cloudy, perfect for golf. The venue of choice, Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, MD, worked out perfectly.

A full complement of 115 golfers came for the day, along with a large group of non-golfers joining the golfers for the awards dinner. As in past WANADA Open tournaments, scoring was captain’s choice, or best ball. Golfers enjoyed a continental breakfast before the tournament started, with lunch favorites served via food station and beverage carts along the course.

After the golf tournament, WANADA members and guests attended a cocktail reception on the Clubhouse Terrace, followed by a banquet and awards dinner. And special guests came this year to entertain guests with a salute to the Washington Capitals and other Washington area sports teams – popular radio personalities, The Sports Junkies for 106.7 FM, The Fan, Cakes and JP (John Auville and John Paul Flaim).

A good time was had by all, and the entire event was finished by dark. (It was Monday, after all.)
